Cloisonne Ginger Jar
$380.00
Late 19th - early 20th Century Chinese Cloisonne Ginger Jar. Cloisonné involves soldering thin metal wires onto a metal base to create compartments (cloisons), which are then filled with enamel paste made from powdered glass. The piece is fired multiple times in a kiln to fuse the enamel and achieve a smooth, glossy surface. The process requires precision and skill, as the enamel can shrink or change color during firing. This art form originated in China over a thousand years ago, first emerging during the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD)
